Original very early war ammunition crate from Western Cartridge Company which originally held 1800 Cartridges of 45 Automatic Ammunition. Since the original development of the cartridge the commercial and military packaging of the 45 automatic cartridges were 2000 per wooden crate, this was changed due to complaints of weight and the crate was reduced to 1800 cartridges. It again changed in the middle of WW2 down to 1200 cartridges which is the most common wooden crates to be found, this is a very short lived rare crate. Complete with lid but missing 1 wing nut on top. in excellent condition with great clear stenciling on the top and 2 sides, the other 2 have been painted brown. No cracks or missing wood.
